Ecumenical Youth Worker's Report
November 2007

Rose’s Ramblings

“So – where’s that youth worker then?!”

You’ve fund-raised hard and made some sacrifices – so what’s that youth worker been up to? Well, there has been a lot of ground work covered in August and September, visiting (and helping run) as many projects, clubs and individuals across the area as possible, as well as getting known in the community to prepare for work outside the churches and chapels too… and that doesn’t even include practical things like setting up the office base (a lovely room in St Oswald’s church hall).

I’ve been delighted to meet a number of young people around the area who have a fire for God which is a credit to them and their adult supporters, and it is a joy to help them in their journey. A group of these young people, with my support, have put in a bid to the Derby Diocese for over £1500. This is to help the youth-led QEGS Christian Union have resources and time out to study together and plan a programme. We have yet to hear any success – but please keep this in your prayers. The Jamboree for youth and children’s workers at the end of September brought together 22 people from many different churches and chapels and, as well as learning about each other and the ups and downs of our work, we gained new ideas and some thoughts for the future. My hope is to have these fairly regularly – especially welcomed by those further afield who can feel quite isolated. Between us we have a vast amount of experience and ideas, so when we naturally sometimes feel a little dry, it’s great to have a bank of people to go to for new ideas and encouragement! So if this meeting is news to you, you’re most welcome at the next one – please get in touch via my office phone number: 01335 300385 or email: linda_rose@hotmail.co.uk And if you have a heart for the young people of the area, maybe feel you cannot do actual children’s or youth work but would love to share in the adventure and pray with us, then we would love to see you at our new drop-in ‘coffee and prayer’ session at the Cornerstone coffee shop every Thursday at 11am onwards, starting in November. Please join us and support this work through prayer and encouragement.
